Most of you know my staff, as they have been with me for many years. They are a group of dedicated professionals who make Wabasha Dentistry what it is today. A member of our team, Johanna, recently had a beautiful baby boy. All are doing well and enjoying their family time. Kayla, a friend of the staffs, has been filling in to help us out while Johanna is gone. She has been a great addition. Be sure to say hello when you see her smiling face.

Wabasha Dentistry provides free dental care for children in need
Dr. Robert J. Mann and staff of Wabasha Dentistry teamed up with dental professionals around the state and volunteered to provide dental care to children thru the “Give Kids A Smile” program.
The Minnesota Dental Association sponsors this statewide outreach effort, called “Give Kids a Smile”. Dentists are committed to providing all children with dental care and improving access to care throughout Minnesota. Now in its 10th consecutive year, “Give Kids a Smile” has provided free dental care to more than 30,000 children. About 200 clinics across the state opened their doors for this program on January 27th and February 3rd.
“This is a special way to reach children in need of dental care and we are happy to have taken part in this program,” said Dr. Mann. Dr. Mann also wants to give a special thanks to his staff that dedicated their time to help out these children. “This program would not be a success without their participation and support

Wabasha Dentistry Attends Dental Conference
Dr. Robert Mann and his entire staff recently attended a 2 day dental training session in Las Vegas. This conference brings in the greatest speakers in dentistry and showcases the newest materials, education and techniques to provide the best dentistry possible. Dr. Mann and his staff annually attend numerous training sessions so they stay current and can provide the best for their patients.

Fall 2011 Update
Fall is upon us and nature’s beauty is again changing in spectacular ways. It is good to live in the Midwest, amongst nice people, who care for each other and bountiful fields and colorful forests.
Today I would like to talk to you about lack of saliva, or dry mouth, which is medically called xerastomia. It can be caused by age, medication or cancer and its treatments. Dry mouth can be devastating, as it can cause dramatic increase in cavities, mouth sores and severe oral irritation. It affects your lifestyle in how you eat, brush and even talk.
There is not many ways to increase your saliva, other than possibly to change your medication. So we tend to be most successful treating the symptoms. There are many products out there to help dry mouth. They give temporary relief at best, but do come in handy at times. Continuing to sip water works well, as does sugarless mints and gum with xyletol, which helps fight cavities. A mouthful of cavities can be a big side effect to dry mouth. We can make custom trays to do a 5 minute fluoride treatment at home to help control the decay process. Dry mouth, radiation and chemotherapy sometimes lead to a burning of the tongue and tissues of the mouth. The best product we have found for that is our Tooth and Gum Tonic mouth rinse. We have had numerous patients come back raving at how the tonic worked for them.

Annual Spring Open House
The staff and I recently attended the Minnesota Dental Association annual meetings in St. Paul. We took a variety of classes and continue to learn all the new and improved ways to serve our patients. Over the last several years we have stayed on top of developments with implants, mini implants, short term adult orthodontics, lasers, computers and smile makeovers, as well as the variety of ways we can accomplish these. We enjoy the education and being able to serve you with nothing but the best that dentistry has to offer.
One of the areas we pride ourselves in the most is our work with young people. We love being able to start children and young adults on a path of great oral health with minimal dentistry. We are so proud of the “wall of photos” of our youth who qualify to be part of our no-cavity club. We work hard in the schools and at the office to educate and give them all the tools they need to accomplish great dental health. We would also like to thank the parents and teachers who help us guide them down this path.

This year we have updated our digital x-ray sensors, our Wabasha Dentistry website, our computers and computer software. We added 6 Month Smiles; a short term esthetic ortho system, and continued to update our education with classes and advanced training for Dr. Mann and the entire staff.

STRAIGHTEN CROOKED TEETH IN 6 MONTHS AND LOOK GREAT AT THE SAME TIME.
 Dr. Robert Mann, Wabasha Dentistry, has recently returned from Seattle, where he completed his course of study for a new program called, “6 Month Smiles”. This education allows Dr. Mann to straighten adult teeth for a great smile, in a 6 month time period, using clear brackets and wires. Most adult patients with crooked teeth do not want braces due to 4 to 5 years of treatment with unsightly metal brackets and wires. Invisalign is an option for adults, but certain tooth movement is much more difficult with these aligners, so treatment times are unpredictable.
